July 27 Pictures and Update

Loading up the Trash Truck

Brady had a good time taking the tissue paper and installing it into the back of his truck.

IMG_2984.jpg

Beach Brady

You know what the benefit of this sand is versus the sand at home?  Cats don't try to go pee and  poop in the beach sand (at least that we know of).

IMG_3002.jpg

Skipping Stones

Brady with a beach stone.  He had a very fun time at the beach and brought home lots of shells and other buried treasures.

IMG_3006.jpg

At the Beach with Kimmy

Brady with a good smile.  He is always grinning when he is with Kippy (although he generally calls her Kimmy now).

IMG_3014.jpg

At the Beach with Mommy

I didn't post the facebook picture of the 2 of them looking out to sea.  Instead this is the pair at the beach.  Like I said, Brady smiles less with mom and dad than with Kim.

IMG_3073.jpg

Kids on the Bed

Every so often Brady wants to "sleep in the big bed".  So here he is passed out and sleeping sideways.  Sundae is looking over at him, wondering what he is doing on the bed (besides jumping on it) and why he is facing sideways.  She is supposed to be the only one who sleeps sideways and takes up half of the bed.

Click here to see Brady reading to Mommy.

IMG_3078.jpg

Crazy Sleepers

Brady thought it was so funny for daddy to sleep in his bed while Brady climbed into the toy box to sleep with his animals.

IMG_3111.jpg

Riding a Steam Train with Kim

We did the annual 4th of July train in Fillmore again.  Kim came with us this time.  Brady had a great time riding on the train.  What a difference a year made in terms of his attention span and sitting still.

IMG_3149.jpg

Loud Steam Whistle

Mike taught Brady to stick his fingers in his ears if things get too loud.  Brady learned this at Sesame Street Live and put it to good use again on the steam train.  FWIW, the whistle wasn't really that loud where we were sitting.

IMG_3161.jpg

Family in front of the Steam Train

Riding on the steam train was totally cool.  The F&W railroad finally got it refurbished and we had a great time riding on something that most people will not get a chance to do, riding on a 1913 Baldwin Steam Locomotive.

IMG_3170.jpg

Cleaning the Shower

Brady really loves the little spray bottles.  I mean, he is obsessed with them.  So we let him play with them outside.  If it is really hot outside then we let him play with them in the shower.  He better get used to spraying the windows.  I see that as a future chore.

Sorry again about the lack of updates.  With Facebook it is so easy to post a picture or two so the website gets neglected.

Brady finally hit something of a growth spurt again.  He jumped up to about 37.25 inches.  I have not weighed him lately but I would classify him as "heavy".  Man, he is just densely built and deceptively heavy for a little boy.

We have been working on potty training and it is finally starting to go well.  Brady is pretty solid at going peepee in the potty.  He had an accident yesterday but generally gets it right all the time.  Number 2 is a little bit of a challenge.  The light finally clicked on pooping last week.  He had a great day where I was giving him a bath and he twice said he had to go poopoo and actually went both times.  But:  #1) he doesn't like pooping in public places (who does?) and #2) when he says he has to go, that generally means he is about to go and you have 5-10 seconds to get him on the toilet. It is a mad dash when Brady says he is ready and there is occasionally a seat cleaning required afterwards.  But it looks promising that he will figure things out and move up to the 3-year old room at school this fall.
one above.

September 11 Pictures and Update

IMG_3592.jpg

New Pup

Brady has a new friend at home.  We lost our kitty Sundae last month and then added a new puppy, Penelope, just over a week later.  Brady is still warming to the dog.  He likes her but is not a fan of her large size.  She has about doubled in size since this puppy photo was taken.

IMG_2722.jpg

Say Cheese

Speaking of cheese, Brady has a very cheesy smile.  Here he has climbed to the top of his Thomas bed to show off his new haircut.

IMG_2724.jpg

Fauxhawk Down

Brady's spiked up hair had its 15 minutes of fame and then went away.

Sorry again about the lack of updates.  This has been a crazy couple of months.  Sundae got sick and finally her 9 lives ran out.  Kidney failure got her a month ago.

About 9 days later, Cathy got Penny and that really has thrown our world into a new direction.  Gone are the days where you could spend 5 minutes feeding the cat, giving her fresh water, and changing the litter box.  Penny needs a lot more interaction.  So between her and Brady, the website is suffering.  Brady, BTW, does not like the dog jumping on him but otherwise he seems to enjoy her a lot.  We are trying to teach her who is the alpha dog and that she needs to leave Brady alone unless we allow her to be near him.

The good news with Brady is potty traiing is finally done.  He is in the 3's class at school and doing very well.  He poops in the toilet almost all the time.  He has more accidents with #1 than #2 now.  I think it has clicked that he usually gets a McDonalds happy meal if he poops at school so he seems to go there more and more now...  We have started to change his reward system to keep his Chicken Nuggets to once a week.  He still loves to be read to and is starting to learn how to spell some written words.  He knows Brady.  And he can spell Kimmy and Mommy to you verbally.  He also knows Fox and usually gets Box.  So the reading continues to pay major dividends in the learning department.

The last madness at the house is we redid Brady's bathroom.  Actually we paid our friend Mark to tile it.  So that was another 3 weeks of craziness.  The most interesting thing is Brady fell in love with taking a shower.  So now we have a new bath that has probably been used twice (vs 4 showers).  But his bathroom is finally out of the 80's.  Like I said, it was a busy 6 or so weeks...

October 16 Pictures and Update

Crazy Brady

Brady's buddy "Uncle Mike" came for a visit.  Brady, who hates hats and will not wear them ever, happily sported a Syracuse hat.  Probably because it is orange.  Anyhow, we are now really concerned about Brady's sanity.

IMG_3725.jpg

Brady at Weekend School

We signed Brady up for some 1-hour classes at the LA Zoo.  This one was called Go Go Gorilla and he got to learn all about Gorilla's.  They have a bunch of books and toys out for you to play with while you wait for all of the kids to arrive.

IMG_3729.jpg

Building a Nest

Brady is building a nest for his little gorilla friend.

IMG_3769.jpg

Riding the little train with Mommy

Here is yet another Travel Town picture with Brady on the little train and a parent.  He love love love love loves that place.  We finally applied as members at the $100 level.  We'll probably go higher next year.

IMG_3775.jpg

Brady on the PumpkinLiner

The Fillmore and Western Railroad had a very cool trip for October.  Its the PumpkinLiner.  You get to ride on a train to the pumpkin patch, play there for an hour and a half, and take the train back.  Each leg on the train is about 30-35 minutes.  It was awesome for Brady.  And the trains are sweet too.  The Baldwin steam engine takes you there and a diesel engine brings you back.  Brady had a great time!

IMG_3834.jpg

The Slider

Here's Brady playing on one of the inflatables at the Pumpkin Patch.  He enjoyed this and the carousel.

IMG_3872.jpg

Brady and Daddy Blowing off some Steam

I had a cute picture of us inside the train but I liked this one because they have the boiler going building up pressure for the 2 PM departure.  I don't think we have many pictures of the steam engine going full blast.

Brady needs to hit a growth spurt.  He seems pretty stuck at 37.25 inches.  It gets kind of old having him climbing up to reach the same old things when he is about 1/2 inch short.  Hopefully he'll get there soon.

Potty training has been going great.  We still have the occasional accident (usually during naptime) but otherwise he has been doing great.  #2 is pretty much 100% now.  The only bad thing about it is how huge and smelly Brady's poops can be.  Seriously, where do these things come from?  Ha ha.

Brady has finally gotten an interest in electronics.  I bought him a learning laptop several months ago and he never really had much interest until the past couple of weeks.  Now he likes playing on his laptop.  I guess maybe it makes him feel like mommy or daddy.  The laptop was a total Slickdeal special ($6.66) for Fisher Price color flash laptop.  Brady has been very advanced on his letters but sort of lost interest.  The laptop has rekindled his interest plus he is learning lowercase letters.  It is great!  The funniest thing is there is a "its raining letters" game where you have to hit the button the letter that is falling.  Brady usually clears a few levels.  But he gets soooooo mad when he loses.  It will be days later and he will mention something at dinner like "the T and the K fell down".  He just hates to lose at the games.  Cathy gives me an angry look and I have to admit that he comes by that trait naturally.

November 27 Pictures and Update

IMG_3889.jpg

Snake Charmer

Brady's petting a snake at the LA Zoo's Animals and Me exhibit.

IMG_3914.jpg

Carving a Pumpkin with Mommy

This was a funny thing to witness.  Brady was excited to carve the pumpkins but didn't like get pumpkin goo on his hands.  So he ended up not being a big fan of the pumpkin carving.  Poor mommy had to do all of it by herself.

IMG_3920.jpg

Giving up Already

Brady has stopped caring about carving pumpkins and is now eating a pina colada slurpee.

IMG_3948.jpg

Dinosaur Costume

We got Brady a Thomas costume, with candy catcher, but it seemed too flimsy to survive the day at school (they had a costume parade).  So we also got him this budget priced dinosaur to wear to school.  It was cute but it was no dragon costume.  That one was the best.

IMG_3960.jpg

Brady the Tank Engine

Here is Brady is his official candy-getting costume.

IMG_3974.jpg

Trick or Treating with Kim

Brady at Auntie Kimmy's place.  He went out with her because her neighborhood is crazy good for Halloween.

IMG_3992.jpg

Brady with a big fish

Cathy took Brady to the Long Beach aquarium for Veteran's Day.

IMG_4009.jpg

Checking out the Cool Fish

This trip was better than the one in late 2010.  Brady seems more mature and more patient in terms of looking at the fish.  We'll be back again in a month since Boeing is a big contributor to the aquarium so we will get it in for a steep discount.

Brady hit the growth spurt.  He is around 37.5+ inches lying down.  Standing up he is just around 36".  That is a function of his wonky back keeping him shorter when he is standing.

The new issue on the home front is sleeping.  Brady wants to sleep in the big bed every day.  Which is actually sweet and cute.  Except for the fact that he likes to sleep sideways and kick everybody in the head.  The main downside is that he just cries and cries and cries when you try to get him to sleep in his own bed.  So we are hoping this is just a phase and he gets back to liking his own bed again.  He really, really does not like it right now.   Boo hoo.

The zoo classes are going great though.  Brady continues to really enjoy them.  This month's was "Big Cats" and December will be "Flamingos".

December 30 Pictures and Update

IMG_4087.jpg

They Never Let Poor Brady

play in any reindeer games.  Here he is eating a candy cane (which he generally is not a huge fan of...) and getting his face and hands dirty before the annual holiday photo.  It is like he knows we are going to take an important picture so he goes and finds a way to get dirty.

IMG_4107.jpg

Santa Train with Mom and Kim

The 4th quarter of the year is a real winner for Brady.  He gets the pumpkin liner and then the Santa liner 2 months later!

IMG_4111.jpg

Cool Shades, On

This is what happens when you get sunglasses from women.

IMG_4133.jpg

In the cab of the Steam Engine

If this was a week earlier, it would have been our annual Christmas card picture.  Here we are in the working cab of a steam engine.  True story, Brady reached for one of the handles and the guy inside jumped like you wouldn't believe to prevent something from happening.  The guy also said the handles are very hot but Brady said he didn't burn his hand.  I figure Brady thought this was one of the Travel town steam engines where you get to turn the knobs and move all the handles.  Oops!

IMG_4146.jpg

Nemo!!!

Brady is checking out the clownfish at the Long Beach aquarium.  It was a free Boeing weekend so Mike and Cathy got in for free.

IMG_4173.jpg

Crabs are Cool

Brady is rather fascinated by them.

IMG_4301.jpg

We both got trains

Brady got big trains (G gauge?) and Daddy got little trains (HO gauge).  It was a very train Christmas in the Novean household.

IMG_4309.jpg

Little Drummer Boy

Brady got a little drum set for Christmas.  Daddy thought it was cool.  Most other people think it was a bad idea.

IMG_4357.jpg

Family Picture

Christmas 2011 after all the gifts were opened.

Brady now weighs 36 lb.  We know because they weighed him at the pediatrician when he was sick last week.  They didn't measure him but he is around 37.75 inches laying and 37 standing.  We've got an appointment at Cedars in January with his metatropic doctors so we should get some status on how Brady is growing and how his back is doing.  That is on Jan 9 (ortho) and 10 (geneticist).  We're a little bit on edge about what we could hear.

Brady continues to mostly sleep in our bed.  He's even taking to calling mom and dad's room as "our room".  Uh oh.  We figure it is still a phase that he will grow out of.  We had a good Christmas.  One of Cathy's presents was tickets to see Bob Seger.  We listened to the CD in the car to get ready for the show.  Brady is now a big Bob Seger fan.  Its pretty funny.  December overall was a fun month.  We had Flamingo class at the zoo, 2 birthday parties which were just great, and the train ride to go along with our usual train visits at Travel town.  The only downside is Brady's 3-year old attitude has really come into full effect.  Sometimes we have to ask him why he is yelling.   The boy just gets all fired up.

Here's to a happy 2012.
