The Bat in the Hat

A fruit bat was found in one of the Cypress trees when it was being cut down.  It survived the tree being cut down, was rescued (bat in the hat), travelled north on I-5, and lives in a new Cypress tree.  The guys took it home with them and evidently the bat just crawled into their neighbor's tree and went back to sleep.

So Long Sycamores

Rest in pieces.  At long last the evil Sycamores are gone from the backyard.  Now we have room to expand back.  Now the Directv signal will no longer be blocked by branches between the dish and the satellite.  The only bad thing is now my cover is totally blown for the UHF antenna.

So much for sleeping in late on weekends.

It looks like our cover is blown and our shade is gone.  But the yard looks much bigger without the monster trees in it.  And no more damage to everything caused by the Sycamore roots.

nearly empty bedroom

Ready to Go!  Emptying out the bedroom

The city completed the plan check and we finally pulled the building permit on April 1 (no fooling).   So the first step was moving everything upstairs to the guest bedroom and office closets.  We are just about done in this picture.  All that is left is some hangars (trash but the can is long since overflowing), sweaters (going to garage), and Grizzly's favorite blanket (garage or linen closet).   The pictures are going onto other walls; kind of stupid of us to buy 3 new canvas paintings one week before...

They played Dig Dug with our house!

OK, so doing a copper repipe while we were adding the new plumbing was a bit of an adventure.   We didn't anticipate having pookas and fygars in the wall.  Not only are we living in the 80's but the walls are too.  As for the addition, the shell, the wiring, and almost all of the plumbing are complete at the end of week 5.   Waiting on a bunch of inspections...

no more holes

No more holes in the wall

Painting over all of the drywall patches is a good way to spend your Memorial Day weekend.   The living room is back to normal.

Almost Done

If you look into the bathroom at the right angle, it looks like the work is all done.  Actually we still need to have another sink installed and a bunch of the shower fixtures too.  But we are nearly finished.

Don't bother me, I'm sleeping

Sundae's goal for the home improvement is a lot less ambitious.  She is just hoping that the noise is kept to a minimum and that she can sleep through most of the job.

Don't bother me, I'm sleeping on the lawn

Sundae wanted to get in some quality time in the backyard before the construction began.  Luckily for her, things were delayed and delayed in March as we waited for the city to do the plan check.   We learned that Santa Clarita is a very popular place to build stuff.

mmmm good

This work is approved as long as I get to eat

Sundae is ok with equipment as long as there is still some grass left that she can eat.  Its all about grazing on the lawn.

These trenches look good, go ahead and pour...

Sundae says it all looks good to her.  Framing = good, trenches = good, rebar = good, plastic seal = good, sand = good.   Go for concrete pour.

My box is going where?!?

Sundae was a little bit surprised when we informed her that her litterbox was not going to be allowed in the new construction.  Check out the goofy look on her face when she got the news.

patches.jpg

You call those patches?  I know patches, I've lived with patches, and those, sir, are no patches.

Sundae got a little bit persnickitty that the house was catching up to her in the number of patches that each one of them has.

Boooorrring

Sundae wonders if the construction is ever going to be done.

Oh I'm Stressed!

As proof that the construction has been hard on everyone, Sundae stressbag has started to lose fur by her left hindleg.  Stop the madness!
